Omen days

"🎶🎤On the first day of Christmas, the lost days gave to me,
A thinning veil of liminality. 🎤🎶
A few of you have messaged and asked “What are Omen cards?”
Well here is my understanding.
For much of human history, time was kept by the Moon, naturally.
The thirrteen lunar cycles shaped our year, each one measured by the waxing and waning of grandmother moons light.
Makes sense right?
Our bodies, understand this rhythm. Especially us women, with the ebb and flow of our menses.
The tides obey her. Seeds, blood, sleep, and dreams move with her. And our moods and emotions and wombs ebb and flow.
The lunatics, werewolves, witches labeled as crazy because of the overflow of potent energy e-motions when she is full.
Sadly the Gregorian solar calendar we now live by in most of the world doesn’t quite fit in with Grandmother Moon.
Even though Father Sun and grandmother moon dance in harmony .
So, twelve months leave extra days, days that don’t belong fit neatly anywhere.
These became known in many cultures as the “Omen day” “lost days,” “spirit days,” or “days out of time.”
And the 12 Days of Christmas sit right in this gap.
They exist between the lunar truth and the solar structure.
Between the old year’s final breath and the new year’s first.
Between Moon-time and clock-time.
A liminal space, a pause where fate or fortune could be glimpsed,
Where omens and signs slipped through more easily, where the future could be seen.
This is why divination, dreaming, omen-watching, and quiet ritual were traditionally practiced at this time.
I imagine our ancestors, those who came before us, casting stones and bones, gazing into the still waters of a lake, scrying in the mists and flickering flames of their fires.
During these days, we are not meant to plan or push forward.
We are meant to listen.
To notice.
To sit with the guidance that arises.
Time is thinner here.
And Grandmother Moon remembers.
The first day of Omen days is December 26th and the last January 6th 2026.
Time to listen, to rest, maybe take Omen walks or draw a tarot card each day.
Brightest Blessings
Much love
Jan
